The 9 Best AMD Motherboards You Can Buy In 2022 - Senxios

Are you looking for a new motherboard for your AMD processor? The search can be quite tough due to the many motherboard models available out there today and you might even stumble into compatibility issues. That’s why I’m here with my list of the 9 best AMD motherboards of 2022.

The most capable AMD motherboard spreads the processing power of a lightning-fast AMD Ryzen central processing unit (CPU) across your whole gaming computer. You can buy many different chipsets like the X570, B550, A520, X470, and B450. The differences can be hard to understand, but I've outlined what to look for and how to decide based on your budget.

First, before you start throwing any AMD motherboards into your shopping cart, make sure you do some research to find out which chipset would work best for your needs. Since AMD uses a different chipset socket, namely the AM4 socket, for several generations of CPUs, they are practically distinctive models from Intel’s LGA sockets. You can also check out my other article on the best Intel motherboards.

Just to let you know, the X570 is the most advanced model, but a B550 motherboard will give you many of the same features that the X570 has. Sometimes for a smaller amount of money. The 500-series model that gives you the best value for your money is the A520. However, if you find an older 400-series board sold at a reasonable price, you might want to buy that one instead.

Since you now have a little bit of knowledge of the different types of motherboards you are dealing with, time to get into our list of the best motherboards for AMD in different sections. Let’s Begin!

Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero - Best Overall AMD

ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero style=

With its default settings optimized, the Dark Hero boosted my Ryzen 9 5950X to over 5 GHz, showing that I am getting the total value that I paid for. As expected, overclocking went smoothly. I can run the CPU at 4.4 GHz with all cores and threads enabled, and I had no trouble running 32 GB of DDR4 memory at 3600 MHz. If you want to do serious overclocking, both the processor and the memory on the Dark Hero still have a lot of room to grow.

The ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero and AMD's great but hard-to-find 5000 series CPUs have been released. So, you can find them in stunning harmony and collaboration while dealing with heavy workloads or games. The Dark version, as its name suggests, is all black.

In the Asus X570 product line, which has been around for a while, there are 14 new motherboards named TUF, Prime, Strix, and WS (Workstation). Now, ROG lines are also making these new motherboards efficiently. There are many different kinds of motherboards on the market today. Their sizes, features, and prices vary greatly. There is probably something in the X570 lineup that will appeal to every customer. The Dark Hero did very well in most of the evaluations of its overall performance.

    Pros

    • 12 USB Ports
    • Eight SATA Ports
    • LN2 Overclocking Ready
    • Wi-Fi 6 & 2.5GbE LAN Support

    Cons

    • The chipset has no fan
    • There are no USB 3.2 Gen2x2 ports

Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Extreme - Best Top-Tier AMD Motherboard

ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Extreme style=

Up until this point, Asus's best motherboard for the AMD platform had been the Crosshair Formula. But the company's latest flagship-class motherboard, the ROG Crosshair VIII Extreme, has entered the arena, which works with the X570 chipset. The business has, however, turned up the volume a bit. As you might expect, the new Extreme is a board with many features.

There are large cutouts here to improve airflow and surface area. The M.2 slots are covered by extra shrouds and heatsinks, making for an excellent cooling environment. Also, two Thunderbolt 4 (Type-A) ports are on the board.

The Extreme does very well, especially in the PC Mark 10 tests. Most of the other tests got either average or above-average scores. Surprisingly, gaming performance was only a fraction above average, but this wasn't a big enough difference to worry about. I had no problems when I tried to overclock the Ryzen 9 5950X; I could just "set it and forget it." During testing, the board used a lot of power, which is not surprising considering how many functions it has.

If you want a flagship-class motherboard for AMD Ryzen and have $799.99 to spend, this motherboard is for you.

    Pros

    • Five M.2 Slots
    • Thunderbolt 4 Capabilities
    • Cover All of the Water Cooling
    • 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet & Wi-Fi 6

    Cons

    • Prices at the top of the line
    • Not much room to free up the PCIe slot on top

MSI MPG X570 Gaming Pro Carbon WIFI - Best AMD Motherboard for Gaming

MSI MPG X570 Gaming PRO Carbon WiFi Motherboard style=

If you are looking for something worth gaming with, the MSI MPG X570 Gaming Pro Carbon is for you. It is a quality gaming motherboard. Thus I could also say that it is a somewhat more expensive motherboard. The motherboard has an ATX form factor and an AMD X570 Chipset. It also comes with an AM4 socket. Despite this, the motherboard is pretty good and decent.

It has lightning Gen 4 PCIe slots and M.2 solutions for your extreme games, while the DDR4 boost will keep the FPS above par. I have tested a few games like Valorant, God of War, and COD: Cold War, and it performed pretty impressively. Also, read about how these different games affect the performance of CPUs in their FPS Benchmark Ratings.

This motherboard comes with a dual-channel of DDR4 RAM slots. Each slot can support a maximum of 64GB RAM, giving it a maximum capacity of 128GB RAM overall. If you want to overclock the RAM, you can get it up to 4,400MHz. Hence, this is the best AMD motherboard for gamers.

    Pros

    • PCIe 4.0 with Memory Boost
    • DDR4 Support up to 4,400MHz
    • Lightning Connector
    • Quick Gameplay

    Cons

    • Pricey
    • Takes a lot of room

Gigabyte X570S Aorus Master - Best AMD Motherboard with Numerous USB Ports

    GIGABYTE X570S AORUS Master style=

When I looked at the AORUS Master, I realized how vital the X570 chipset is when it is built into a high-quality motherboard. Let's take a look at this board's features, how it works, its ways to connect, and the BIOS.

In short, the X570 chipset is pretty flexible and meets all the requirements for building a high-end computer in 2022. PCI Express Generation 4, Wi-Fi 6, and many PCI Express lanes are supported. This chipset usually has much more cooling for the VRMs and a lot more cooling for the chipset itself.

The cooling on this board is one of its best features, and the 14 phase VRM arrangement works well. With many 4-pin PWM fan headers, it also has a row of four RGB connections at the bottom. A pair of USB 2.0 headers is another valuable addition when more RGB controllers need to be used with the ports. However, the main highlight is its USB ports which there are 12 of in total.

The AORUS X570 Master is a strong motherboard with excellent overclocking capabilities, good connectivity options, a reliable layout, and some nice-looking extras. It has the advantages of having an X570 chipset but at a price that isn't too high. This is an excellent match for a Ryzen 7 or 9 series processor, but if you have a Ryzen 5 processor, I still recommend the superb B550 options from Gigabyte and other companies.

    Pros

    • PCI-E Gen 4 M.2 Support
    • 12 USB Ports
    • Elegant & Beautiful
    • Quick Set-Up

    Cons

    • It costs a lot of money.
    • Very large motherboard

Gigabyte X570 Aorus Ultra - Best Mid-Range AMD Motherboard

    GIGABYTE X570 AORUS Ultra style=

You can spend more money and get features you might not use, but for about $300, this falcon board is hard to beat. It has a lot of USB ports and three places for M.2 storage drives.

The X570 Aorus Ultra strikes a good balance by having all the essential features and being affordable. It doesn't have features like 2.5Gb Ethernet but focuses on high-quality audio, three PCIe 4.0 M.2 slots, and a complete set of SATA and USB connectors.

The Gigabyte X570 Aorus Ultra costs $299.99, which puts it firmly in the mid-range group of motherboards for this chipset. At least one of the other boards that use this chipset sells for $1,000. The Gigabyte Ultra board costs $300 and has premium Realtek audio, Wi-Fi 6, three PCIe 4.0 x4 M.2 slots, six SATA ports, and solid voltage regulation modules (VRMs). It looks good with any theme and has a complete ATX form factor. Because of these awesome features, I’ve put it on the list of the best AMD motherboards in the middle price range.

Gigabyte makes motherboards with the Aorus brand for gamers and other enthusiasts. Electrostatic discharge (ESD) guards, RGB LEDs, metal "armour" on the DIMM and PCIe slots, and a greater focus on style than the company's other products are standard features of this board. The Aorus Ultra meets these needs and offers a wide range of features at a price that is easy on the wallet. The Gigabyte X570 lineup has standard board sizes and a wide range of prices, from the entry-level X570 UD to the top-of-the-line X570 Aorus Xtreme. It has something for everyone, including the Mini-ITX X570-I Aorus Pro Wi-Fi board. The X570-Mini-ITX is a Mini-ITX board part of Gigabyte's X570 line.

The Gigabyte X570 Aorus can be bought without costing a fortune, putting it at the lower end of the mid-range for X570 motherboards. It competes directly with motherboards like the ASRock Phantom Gaming X, the Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Hero, and the X570 Aorus Master. Since the price of this Aorus board is much lower than those other versions, it's possible that some features were taken away to make it cheaper. Still, I think the X570 Aorus Ultra is a smart choice for many users. It passed all of the stock tests and all of the overclocking tests without any problems. The performance was the same as that of the other X570 motherboards I tested as well.

    Pros

    • Three M.2 Slots
    • Debug LEDs
    • PCIe 4.0 with Heatsink
    • 3.2 Type-C Generation 2 Port

    Cons

    • It is still more pricey than a B550 motherboard
    • No 2.5 GbE LAN connection

ASRock X570 Phantom Gaming ITX/TB3 - Best ITX AMD Motherboard

    ASRock X570 Phantom Gaming style=

The ASRock X570 Phantom Gaming-ITX/TB3 performed very well in both the stock and the overclocked benchmarks. This board is one of the few that has a Thunderbolt 3 port, so everyone, who has an ITX-built system, should get it. Even though it has three USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports on the back IO, the device only has five USB ports in total. At the factory settings, you may be able to hear the chipset fan. But for $240, this mini board is an excellent and complete way to build a small system. Find the best ITX PC case for this motherboard in my other best PC cases guide.

The DDR4 4533+ memory speed support on the Phantom Gaming-ITX/TB3 is among the highest I've seen. It also has a powerful 10 Phase VRM, 7.1 channel Realtek ALC 1220 audio, and built-in Wi-Fi 6 capabilities. The product also has one of the highest lists of memory speeds it can support. It costs $239, which puts it on the lower end of the price range. Remember, though, that the X570 motherboards are usually more expensive than their X470 counterparts. Despite its small size, it still has a lot to offer.

ASRock's Phantom Gaming is the company's line of products for the gaming industry as the name suggests. The company says that this line aims to give gamers, professionals and PC enthusiasts, products at the top of their game categories. ASRock makes three different boards in this series. I am currently looking at the entry-level X570 Phantom Gaming 4, the X570 Phantom Gaming X, and the Phantom Gaming-ITX/TB3 motherboards. Aside from these boards, ASRock has a wide range of X570 boards, from entry-level to top-of-the-line models.

    Pros

    • Three USB 3.1 Gen2 ports
    • Thunderbolt 3 Type-C port
    • Aggressive Price
    • Robust VRM

    Cons

    • The M.2 slot in the back
    • Harder to put in a PCIe 4.0 SSD.

ASRock X570S PG Riptide - Best Budget Gaming Motherboard for AMD

    ASRock X570S PG Riptide style=

Even if you don't like how the ASRock X570S Riptide looks, it has a fanless chipset cooler, costs less than $200, and has many good features. This makes it a good choice for building a system on a budget for games.

Because the X570S chipset upgrade just came out, motherboard partners could update their product stacks and give AMD builders something new before Zen 4 comes out sometime in the next year. This was possible because the chipset fan was no longer needed. In the past few weeks, I've heard a few announcements about this topic, including one from Gigabyte about their high-end X570s series motherboards. On the other hand, ASRock was the first company to launch its X570S board to test. Also, it's important to note that the suggested retail price for the ASRock X570S Riptide is $185, which is on the lower end of the price range.

The ASRock X570S Riptide is different from the rest of the X570 range because it doesn't have a chipset fan. This is the most significant difference between the products of the two companies. The Riptide looks like a cheap board because most of the PCB is visible, except for the chipset and the M.2 heatsink. However, it is not at all ugly. Aside from that, the Riptide has two PCIe 4.0 M.2 sockets, Killer-based 2.5 GbE networking, six SATA ports, and voltage regulator modules (VRMs) that can support both the standard and overclocked versions of the flagship AMD Ryzen 9 5950X processor.

Regarding performance, the Riptide was on par with the other X570 motherboards I tested, even the more expensive ones (and noisier). The Riptide overclocks the CPU to more than 5 GHz. This means that when you use this board with its default settings, you will get precisely what you should. When the clock speed of the board was sped up, the voltage regulators ran a bit hotter than usual, but they were still well within their specs.

    Pros

    • Low Price
    • More Excellent for a Chip Without a Fan
    • Killer 2.5 GbE & USB 3.2 Ports that can Handle 20 Gbps.

    Cons

    • Straightforward styles may not be for everyone.
    • Not perfect for extreme gaming
    • Mediocre ALC897 Audio Codec

Gigabyte TRX40 AORUS Master - Best AMD Gaming Enthusiasts Motherboard

    GIGABYTE TRX40 AORUS Master style=

When it comes to getting power to AMDs Threadripper 3960X, 3970X, and 3990X processors, the Gigabyte TRX40 Aorus Master motherboard is one of the best. It has 5 Gigabit Ethernet, 2 x Wi-Fi Antennas, and PCIe Gen 4 for optimum speed and data transfer. A powerful VRM with 16+3 Phases at 70A is also included.

The Gigabyte TRX40 Aorus Master ATX Motherboard is one of the least expensive motherboards that can work with the 3rd Generation of AMD Ryzen Threadripper processors. It has a lot of features and great DRAM overclocking capabilities.

If the motherboard gets the most out of the processor, it needs to have the best AMD motherboard CPU power architecture. This motherboard has a good VRM. It has 70 Amp power stages and Direct 16+3 phases, which deliver power to the motherboard's other parts. Simply put, a good VRM means more power and better performance. This motherboard works with three different CPUs: the 3990X, the 3960X, and the 33970X.

    • Reasonable Price

    Cons

    • CPU overclocking is average
    • Discrete RGB LED

ASUS TUF Gaming B550-PLUS - Best Low Range AMD Motherboard

    ASUS TUF Gaming B550-PLUS style=

The Asus TUF Gaming B550M-Plus is a well-rounded motherboard that works as expected and has Wi-Fi 6, dual M.2, and a USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C connector, all at a very low price. This motherboard has a compact form factor as well.

The TUF B550M-Plus Wi-Fi, which costs $179.99, is in the middle to lower end of the B550 lineup. For the price you are paying, you will get a MicroATX motherboard with built-in Wi-Fi 6, two M.2 slots, an 8+2 phase voltage regulation module (VRM), and even a USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-C port.

A few years ago, the Asus TUF series of motherboards had a heavy shell for protection (which Asus often called "armour"), many features, and a price in the middle of the range. To bring things up to date, the TUF brand, especially when it comes to motherboards, has been focusing on gamers on a budget.

There have also been changes in the motherboard industry in the past few years. The armour has been taken off, and the new products have a lower starting price and are more of a mainstream product. Asus makes three TUF-branded parts that fit the B550 form factor. These are the TUF Gaming B550-Plus, the TUF Gaming B550M-Plus, and the Plus Wi-Fi, all of which are exceptional units. They come with TUF chokes and capacitors, a reinforced PCIe slot, and ESD protection for the IO and LAN ports on the back. But the Gaming B550-PLUS is above all.

    Pros

    • Intel Wi-Fi 6
    • AX200 Built into the USB 3.2 Gen2
    • Type-C Port
    • TUF Amazing Safety Measures.

    Cons

    • Some may not find it attractive
    • May heat up under stress
